If you’ve been keeping track of the trend for online learning, then you’ll have seen a huge increase in lockdowners buying online courses.
However, there’s also a huge amount of shit out there, being peddled by so-called gurus who pretend to have the shortcut to making a gazillion dollars in 28 minutes.
We spent a full day analysing the top 50 experts who offer advice on creating an online course and found 8 who we think are worth listening to.
Let’s get stuck in.
Psst. None of these are affiliate links – we don’t care if you buy from them or not!
01: Sunny Lenarduzzi
If you can spell her name (and avoid being distracted by the bluest eyes of any YouTuber today), then Sunny is a brilliant marketer who actually knows what she’s talking about.
We learnt more about creating a course in this 18-minute video than we have from reading hundreds of articles from course-platform providers like Teachable (who, understandably, just want to sell their product).
Well worth 18 minutes of your time.
02: Ian Brodie
Ian is the real deal when it comes to creating and selling content online. He’s not only written a best-selling book on email marketing, but his Momentum club has been successfully recruiting new members (at $1,200 p.a.) for years.
Recently, he created one of the most comprehensive guides to online courses that we’ve ever seen (yep, it’s about 10,000 words!).
However, in typical Brodie-style, it’s broken down into bite-sized pieces and is packed with practical advice that you can implement straight away.
03: Neil Patel
No matter which way you look at it, Neil Patel knows a thing or two about online marketing.
In this (very) detailed article, Neil (or more likely his copywriting team) goes into huge depth on how to build and scale an online course and includes real-life examples to learn from.
The only distraction is his Fonzy-like popup at the bottom that gets real old, real quick…
04: Miles Beckler
If you’ve watched as many Miles Beckler videos on YouTube as we have, you’ll know three things.
- He really does know his stuff.
- He gives away everything for free.
- It’s impossible to say the words ‘Miles Beckler’ without adding ‘MilesBeckler.com’ (this is how introduces himself in every video)
In this video, he goes through the only 5 steps to follow to make money from an online course.
05: Joel Erway
Joel is one of the most honest experts in the online course space, and he recently gave a complete ‘behind the curtains’ look at how he creates his high-ticket online courses
You do have to join his Facebook group to watch it (that’s how he generates leads), and there is a sales pitch at the end, but he gives you so much information in just 45 minutes, you can’t blame him for trying to make some money!
Watch the webinar on Facebook here (You have to join his group first).
06: Aaron Fletcher
No list about online course creation is complete without mentioning ‘The Fletchmonster’.
Aaron is an ex-Navy bomb disposal expert, so as you’d expect, his system for creating courses is highly process-driven (he calls them ‘Frameworks’).
His latest offering is a 14-day challenge that walks you through every single step of creating a course that will actually sell.
It’s a commitment, but it’s the process we’re following to create our newest course (coming soon), and if you follow the framework he lays out, you’ll build something that people actually want to buy.
Again, this challenge is only available if you join his (free) Facebook group, but the amount of advice he gives away is pretty staggering.
Enrol on the challenge on Facebook here (You have to join his group first).
07: Jenna Kutcher
Jenna has one of the best podcast names ever (Goal Digger), and in this podcast episode, she shows how she created and recorded a brand new course in just 7 days.
If you prefer words to noises, then the podcast content is transcribed on that page too.

08: Nudge (Coaching platform)
If you’re eyeing up the big bucks, then this article on high-ticket coaching & courses is sure to tickle your pickle.
Whilst we don’t necessarily think you should sign up for Nudge, we do think that this article will open your eyes to the high prices you can (and should) charge for your coaching and courses.
