Issue 52: Google Tag Manager, worst FB headlines and Pop-ups

Happy New Year!

It’s only the 2nd, and I’ve already failed at Dry January. Hope you’re doing better with your resolutions.

Talking of resolutions, Zuck’s list includes hiding like counts from Instagram and Facebook. At first, this seems like a terrible idea, but Paul McDougal digs into it in more depth and draws some surprising conclusions.

If you’re not using Google Tag Manager yet, then you really need to look into it. Even discounting the performance benefits it brings, moving all your external tags to Google’s interface allows you to do some pretty clever stuff.

Our favourite, (which we do on this site), is to wait 20 seconds before firing Google Analytics, so we don’t count bounces in our traffic reports. But imagine being able to fire the pixel only on certain pages, or using a different reporting apps for different sections of the site.

Tag Manager recipes sites are like Pornhub for nerds!

A few issues back, we looked at pop-ups and how to avoid being a c*ckwomble with them, and in this issue, Vicky explores 9 creative ideas for pop-ups that don’t get you down.

Paul McDougal gets all stalky, and looks at ways to create truly personalised content on Social Media, while Vicky rounds up the 18 worst headlines on Facebook in 2019 (some of them made us throw up in our mouths a little bit – what the hell were you all thinking?).

Anyway, that’s more than enough for this week. Hopefully, like us, you’re on a two-day work week – I’m worried it’s gonna make next week even worse though…
